Version 2.1

Bicycles

  • Your citizens ride bikes now. Bicycles are a fourth way to get around, next to walking, the car and the bus
  • Not everyone rides: a third of your citizens never will, about half only ride where bike lanes take them, and about one in ten rides any street
  • A cyclist takes no parking space, pays no fuel or fare and never sits in a traffic jam
  • Bike lanes put jobs within reach of people without a car
  • Car owners who could ride instead feel the car’s license and parking fees, and with high fees they sell the car instead of leaving the city
  • Cyclists ride the bike lanes in the city, fewer at night
  • The newspaper notices when cycling takes off in your city

Streets

  • You can now have different types of streets: with or without bike lanes, with or without street parking. The street configuration affects how wide they are, narrow (10m), normal (20m) or wide (30m)
  • Narrow streets cost less maintenance, wide ones more
  • Bridges are as wide as their street and carry its layout
  • A drag that turns a corner can bend the other way: hold Shift, or LB/RB on a gamepad
  • Your saved cities keep every street as street parking, just as before
  • Traffic simulation is much faster: trips simulate up to 60% faster, and cars, buses, walkers and cyclists take less time to draw.

Garages and parking

  • Corporate towers and shopping centers have their own underground parking. And houses have garages.
  • Parking spaces in buildings are for the building’s residents, workers and customers.
  • Citizens no longer buy cars when their residence or block is without good parking.
  • The inspector shows capacity and usage of building parking in its busiest day of the week and how many spaces it was short
  • Companies with problems with parking lose productivity or customers more precisely and it’s shown as an event in the company ledger
  • Buildings with underground parking can’t be built on low ground near the sea, where it would flood

Shopping

  • New Shopping Mall: a big regional mall in Art Deco, Brutalist or Modernist style
  • The old mall is now the Department Store, with three new looks: Neoclassical, Brutalist and Modernist

Fixes

  • Fixed crime finding no streets in cities brought over from 1.x: street muggings, vandalism and assaults are back, and crime stories name the street again
  • Fixed street parking being undercounted in some blocks
  • Fixed road upkeep charging the same however much street a road tile held
  • Fixed buildings at the edge of a block missing the road in front of them
  • Fixed bridge piers, railings and lamps, and cars on ramps, standing off their deck on some bridges
  • Fixed promenade trees standing on the kerb, and promenade walkers favoring the wrong buildings
  • Bus stops can go on any street
  • A gift building that was demolished or burned down can be rolled or bought again
  • Fixed a loading screen that could stay stuck at “Terrain received”: the game now falls back to WebGL2
  • Fixed the loading screen hanging, instead of showing “Graphics could not start”, on computers where graphics are disabled
